Grow – Preschool Age

Preschool Opportunities on Sundays 9 a.m. – noon, Sept.-May
(Birth to 4 years)

St. Paul's has bright and cheerful infant and toddler nurseries available every Sunday morning. No reservations are needed for parents to leave their children in this safe, nurturing Christian environment.

  • Infants birth to one year go to Room 115, where they are cared for by Liz Frederick.
  • Toddlers to 2-year-olds go to Rooms 116/117, where they are cared for by Heidi Hodges and receive a short story and song time each week.
  • 3- and 4-year-olds go to Room 127, where they learn from the Hands-On Bible Curriculum, getting to know their Bible while engaging in fun, participatory activities.

Please stop by the nurseries any time to look at the rooms and meet the caregivers. Adult volunteers are also needed to assist our caregivers. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Stacie Buckler at 248-651-9361 or speak to Heidi and/or Liz on Sunday mornings.

Children’s Ministry Keystones

The keystones were developed by the Children’s Ministry Committee to lay out significant faith concepts and stepping stones that will be taught in Sunday school and at special events.  The keysontes are in place to help children develop a firm faith foundation and give them a strong sense of the Christian faith.

Nursery Keystones

  • Learn the song “Jesus Loves Me”
  • Recognize a picture of St. Paul’s UMC as a church
  • Begin to establish church friends and feel safe at church
  • To be able to identify a Bible

Preschool (Ages 3 and 4) Keystones

All nursery keystones plus:

  • Learn age appropriate prayers to say before a meal and at bedtime
  • Take a tour of the church
  • Learn church safety, appropriate behavior in church and respect for holy spaces
  • To know that Jesus is God’s son

Safety is our most important concern.

All teachers, counselors, childcare coordinators and babysitters have background checks to ensure children’s safety. We strive for two adults in all classrooms and nurseries. On Sunday mornings, beeper units are given to parents with children in our Sunday nurseries and special needs classroom. In addition, age-appropriate toys are cleaned and sanitized each week.

Nursery Volunteers Needed

We need volunteers Sundays at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. We’ll even help train you. Please contact Stacie Buckler at 248-651-9361 to volunteer.

Weekday Child Care

We have a Reservation Hotline to help us serve your needs. During office hours, please call the church Childcare Hotline (248-651-9361, ext. 114).

Weekday childcare is provided for a majority of our adult classes and choirs. If you have any questions regarding the availability of childcare, please ask your class or choir coordinator.

Summer Sunday Morning Child Care

During our summer 10 a.m. worship services, child care is provided for children ages infant to 3-years-old in the Infant and Toddler Nurseries. Child care is not provided for the summer 8:30 a.m. service.

Joyful Noise “Very Young” Children’s Choir

Toddlers through 4-years old learn some basics of choral singing along with familiar Sunday School songs. We rehearse Sundays at 10 a.m. in Room 125 (located on 1st floor of the education wing). Director: Karen Rider.
