Habitat for Humanity...

Help build our next Habitat home…

BUILD DATES: June 13 – 18 and July 11 - 16, 2011

St. Paul’s will help to build our tenth Habitat home in Pontiac, with the Rochester Habitat Coalition, the churches and service clubs of Rochester.

There will be a table in the Narthex (at the back of the Sanctuary on Sunday mornings) for a chance to sign up to support the building. Sign up for as few or as many hours as you are available. Even if you’ve never pounded a nail, there are opportunities to help (and maybe come home with new found construction skills!)

Stop by and find out how you can support the Habitat for Humanity home build.

Nine years.

Nine homes.

Nine families.

St. Paul's helped build our 9th Habitat for Humanity home at 214 Prospect St. in Pontiac June 15-20, 2009, and Saturdays during July and August through the Rochester Habitat Coalition, including other churches and service clubs in Rochester. We will build (or possibly rehab an existing home) our 10th home during the summer of 2010.

You can make a donation to Habitat for Humanity through St. Paul's. It will go toward next year's home. This year St. Paul's committed $16,000 to Habitat for Humanity Oakland County for the Rochester Coalition build.

For the past 7-8 years, the United Methodist Men have put on a Valentine's Dinner to benefit Habitat and the other big fund raiser has been Extras for Missions during Lent where St. Paul's families are asked to put aside 10% of all spending on “Extras” and donate them to Habitat.

Other volunteer opportunities:

  • Construction work
  • Mentor a partner family
  • Work on a Habitat Oakland County committee by visiting Habitat of Oakland County, clicking on the "Volunteer Now" button and following the prompts to register and sign up, or by calling 248-338-1843

You can also donate to the Habitat ReStore. They take (and sell at reduced prices) new and used building materials and used furniture and appliances. To arrange for pickup of these items call 248-339-9148. The Oakland County ReStore is located at 150 Osmun Street in Pontiac.

Extras for Missions

One of St. Paul’s growing traditions is that, during Lent, we invite everyone to practice “tithing on non-essentials.” What does this mean? For each dollar you spend on non-essential items such as dinner out, entertainment, manicures (you decide which expenses are non-essential), set aside 10%.

At the end of Lent, give a prayer of thanks as you contribute the monies to “Habitat for Humanity” and help people who often can afford only essentials. Further information and special envelopes are available in the kiosk prior to and during each Lenten season.
