November 7, 2019:  In the 2018-2019 school year, 77 Liberian children were able to attend school due to more than $8800 donated by the people from St. Paul’s UMC. Tuition typically runs between $150 – $350 (US dollars) depending on grade level. St. Paul’s has a long-standing relationship with Henri Dennis School in Monrovia, Liberia but this money has helped children throughout the country of Liberia. Mary Watson has been involved in raising awareness and donations for the schools in Liberia. She writes, “After my first trip to Liberia (2006) I felt the only way the country could escape their poverty was to educate their populous. The logo for Henri W Dennis school is ‘We Lift the Veil of Ignorance’ – a prayer we could all lift for the Liberian people.”

To learn more about education in Liberia, please pick up a copy of Liberia Education Report Update available in the Kiosk in the Narthex. This report provides information on schools throughout the country of Liberia. Whereas the focus in the report is on the successes there is no shortage of needs in this, the poorest country in the world. Watson feels “It is a humbling honor to be able to help people who mostly have not even the basics of life.”
