Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Thursday, January 23
7 p.m. in the Sanctuary
This year we are joining with other local churches in a week of services focusing on prayer for Christian unity.
Six congregations, representing a variety of Christian denominations, will come together for an Ecumenical Celebration of the Word of God each night from January 18 – 23, 2020.
The services, part of the area’s observance of the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, will take place at 7 p.m. each night at a different church. The services will last approximately 30 minutes with a reception following. A free-will offering will benefit the Rochester Area Neighborhood House.
The schedule is as follows:
Saturday, January 18: St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, 1400 Inglewood Ave., Rochester
Sunday, January 19: 1st Congregational United Church of Christ, 1315 N. Pine St., Rochester
Monday, January 20: University Presbyterian Church, 1385 S. Adams Rd., Rochester Hills
Tuesday, January 21: Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, 1550 Walton Blvd., Rochester Hills
Wednesday, January 22: St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 100 Romeo Rd., Rochester
Thursday, January 23: St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 620 Romeo St., Rochester
Begun in 1908, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is celebrated each year in cities and towns across the country and around the world.
The theme for the 2020 observance is “They Showed Us Unusual Kindness” (cf. Acts 28:2). The theme and text for each year’s observance of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity are chosen and prepared by representatives of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and representatives of the World Council of Churches. The international texts are developed, adapted, and published for use in the USA by the Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute.
The Rochester observance is sponsored by the Rochester Ministerial Association. The public is cordially invited.
